Bubble Up is an innovative recovery learning programme from cultural education charity Curious Minds.

The programme responds directly to the widespread concern about the impact Covid-19 isolation is having on children’s education and welfare, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Bubble Up is designed to mobilise the nation’s expert army of teaching artists and cultural organisations to deliver compelling out of school hours learning clubs to benefit children and young people’s learning and wellbeing following lockdown.

Bubble Up began as a response the Coronavirus Pandemic and extended school closures in the first half of 2020. That summer, Curious Minds commissioned and supported 17 artists and grass-roots cultural organisations to plan and deliver a series of covid-safe extra-curricular learning clubs in disadvantaged neighbourhoods across the North West of England. Across a period of three weeks, the clubs engaged over 180 11-12 year olds in high-quality learning activity in 5 places:

The summer pilot was a resounding success. Bubble Up has since grown to involve 74 artists and cultural organisations working in partnership with schools and youth agencies to deliver doorstep learning clubs in 21 neighbourhoods.
"No-one can underestimate how much has been lost for young people, particularly those who are making the transition from Year 6 into Year 7. The Curious Minds Bubble Up commission allowed us to re-instil resilience and hope in to Young People with huge success."
